Am I not allowed to talk about things that are not related to automotive stuff? 1st Amendment says that I have free speech since I'm a US citizen.

Here is how I see it, as I've crossed this before:

You DO have the right to free speech. And there are consequences for making poor choices on what you talk about. So you can talk about non-automotive stuff.....but you can also find yourself banned off the forum.

Hope that makes sense. But honestly, we all know what this forum is. Isn't having Facebook, Twitter, and all that stupid social media crap giving you enough places to talk about "other stuff"?

It's a car forum, for talking about cars.

If you feel that this forum is infringing on your rights, turn it off.

Using this forum is privilege, not a right.

This forum is for asking about cars (buying, repairing, and sometimes car news and funny car-related stickies, etc.).  There are other forums for other topics, but the mission in this forum is clear:  to help people with their car-related issues, and it’s best to keep it so.

Just as the constitution lines a set of rules and guidelines for the country's government, this forum has its own set of rules and has specifically car oriented conversation.

Or we could just ping Joe and have him explain this...

The 1st Amendment only applies to government not restricting freedom of speech. A privately-owned forum gets to set its own rules as to what is and is not permitted.

I'm not a lawyer, but I don' t thinks that this is universally true. For example, I don't think your phone company can control who you call, and what you say on the phone.
Private companies still have to follow some rules. This forum is not a public utility though.

On a seperate note, we have the "inalienable right to travel" but driving is a priviledge not a right. What you are talking about is that the gov't can't infringe your rights. It doesn't mean a mechanic's forum will let you break the forum rules because of the constitution of a country.

Honestly your post made me crack up in laughter the first time I read it.

Probably free speech. Probably not free typing 😆

I don't see any problem in a question or two once in a while. But if that becomes daily routine, this forum would lose its context. And that would be nonsense.

Actually, what is the purpose of your question?

I was just curious about and if I posted things that are not related to cars, I might get banned

Probably not if you get lucky and Scotty answers first.

i know a site where you can talk about anything, no cussing or nudity though, can access the political forum after a probation period, holler and i will post the link, it is fun/entertaining/informative

capitalization is not required either 🙂
