Hi Scotty, I have a 2014 Silverado 5.3. I’ve had it since launch (Late 2013) it’s been a great pickup for the last 200k miles (tranny aside lol), but now it sometimes refuses to start after a short trip, but wait for half an hour and it starts right up without any issue. I’ve taken it to a mechanic but they can’t seem to figure it out.. any ideas?

Note: My story with this is I went to a gas station and as we all do, I shut it off. Once I finished pumping and went to start it, the starter would click but the engine wouldn’t start. After some time scratching my head I go to start it out of frustration (about 30min later) it started right up as if nothing was wrong. No lights or craziness yet but I can only imagine what could happen

I had somewhat same issue in my 05 Camry. The car would sometimes start and sometimes it doesn't. I took it to a mechanic and found out the terminals that connects to the starter was corroded and they had to repair it. I would take it to a mechanic and diagnose the problem.

See the troubleshooting section of the FAQ. Failing when hot and recovering when cooled off is typical behavior of a failing crank position sensor, but you need to diagnose the problem before replacing parts since there are multiple potential causes.

Does the engine crank, but not start for 30 minutes, or is the starter just clicking? I'm a bit confused.
