[Solved] Noise from rear;

I have a 2003 Ford F-150 with over 200K miles. I change the oil every season. Im not the original owner.

My trouble is I have noise from the rear.  I asked a mechanic to look at the differential and he said it has oil. The tires in the rear I had to move from the front because of vibration at high speeds.  Im worried the rear end is going out. Also Im considering another vehicle.  Its my work truck; Im about to retire.

As I type I see where this could go; getting another vehicle, but if its only the tire, I could wait.

Thanks Super Show

Dave

Could you describe the noise? Grinding, clicking, roaring, etc.

The noise was getting louder and I was looking at another truck to buy.  Not wanting to spend on a brand new truck buy another used truck would have been just like have my truck with unknow troubies.  So, I put it in the shop and the mechanic found bad axle bearings.  He changed the bearings, seal, rotor, pads and oil for $950

Thanks for letting us know!

Check your rear wheel bearings. Aside from being 20 years old with a couple of hundred thousand miles on them, putting shakey tires in the rear can damage the bearings.

In addition to @chucktobias response: if the rear tires which were previously on the front and were the source of vibration have developed an abnormal wear pattern, they could be the source of the noise.
