Not Able to Shift in 1st and 2nd gears in my Manual Transmission honda

Hey Scotty! I have a 2009 Honda City i-vtec Manual Transmission, I took it out today and the gears seemed a bit hard to get into, especially the 1st and 2nd gears, once the stick moved into neutral automatically when I depressed the clutch. Now however, I am not able to get into 1st and 2nd gear at all. I had changed the clutch about 20,000km ago, along with the transmission oil.

I also had my car in for a full detail a few days ago, I have had my car cleaned from there many times, but have not faced any problems, but this time they cleaned the engine bay too. I am not sure whether that had anything to do with it, but thought I would mention it.

Thanks

Check all your clutch adjustments first.  If that doesn't help, your synchros are worn out.

I’m curious, from your experience, how long does it take for synchros to wear out, for an average driver that doesn’t shift too hard too often.

It is dependent on driving technique.  Some people will shift gears without holding the clutch pedal completely down unconsciously.  Some people like to rest their hand on the shift lever while they're driving, putting pressure on the synchros and wearing them out prematurely.

So you think it is the synchros? Because the gear lever will not even go to the left side.

I would love to see a picture of this.  Fortunately, you didn't have to remove and repair the trans.  Congrats.  Now, all you need is a pet snake to keep the rodents away!

It could also be a broken shift fork.  After the shift lever is removed, can the trans be opened from the top?

shall check and get back to you

@Doc Hey! So I found out what it was. Mice had stored coconut shells near the gear selector on the transmission itself. So it was getting jammed everytime i was trying to put into first or second.
