Buying a used SUV opinions

Hi Scotty, I’m looking into buying a used car for about $7000 dollars and I was looking at the Toyota Highlander 2008 from a private owner and I was wondering since it’s not enough for that amount. What’s the next best thing with a backup camera or digital screen. I’m only looking to buy a SUV and I’ve had about 2 Toyota 4Runners that lasted me for as long as I needed.

One post per question is enough. No double posting

$7k isn't much for an SUV. I would consider a smaller car with lower mileage.

Screens shouldn't really be a priority.

I'd avoid screens and digital infotainment systems, they brake and can cost unbelievable amounts to replace (I've recently saw a video where the dealer was asking 7 grand just for the HVAC and infotainment control unit) - and you can always install an aftermarket one.

On the topic of reverse cameras, I have built in backup camera on my '14 Ford and I can assure you it's absolutely useless it's in the bumper, constantly dirty, points at the sun and the resolution / angle are so low you still do most of the driving in reverse the traditional way - that's the case for even most models made in the 5 years even, some recent ones are beginning to get good but personally they're still not great at all.

Quite honestly, you best option will probably be another 4Runner if you can find them in decent condition for that cheap. If you need a fancy infotainment system and a reverse camera just find a place where they can install a good aftermarket one.

Thank you 😊.
