What SUV should I buy

My 2022 Toyota RAV-4 was totaled by a distracted driver, I was rear-ended and pushed into a work van in front of me. I was not at-fault. The payout from insurance after I clear my loan will be about $7000. I am not considering a newer RAV-4 since they're extremely popular.

I now am seeking something reliable, 4x4/AWD, $30k or less, with a reasonable towing capacity so I can get a travel trailer/ walled camper. Any ideas on what I should purchase next? My parents are pressuring me to get something newer due to concerns of repairs/reliability. Any ideas what I should look for? I live in Pennsylvania, and do live close to the Manheim Auto Auction.

Thanks! I am okay after the collision and did not have any injuries. The other parties are not injured either.

You mention a travel trailer, that can greatly narrow down your options depending on what you need to tow.

What size and weight are you looking at?

@kaizen mentioned a terrific choice, the 4Runner. However, it would be limited to about maybe a 17-19 foot travel trailer. You probably don't want to go over about 4000lbs loaded, or it could get scary. Very good for a small camper though.

If you want bigger, a Sequoia or Tundra.

Stay away from car auctions unless you have an experienced professional that can go with you, and even they will sometimes get burned at those places.

A 4Runner might be up your alley. Especially since the new generation is coming out, the previous generation might have some deals.

Good point. I'll note that for sure. I may pay a dealer to go for me. I've heard of people doing this and having great success.

I don't know how much your camper weighs, but $30K is going to be a stretch if you want a real towing vehicle that tows more than 5,000 pounds. New Tacomas typically go for $45K and can tow 6,500 pounds even with a turbo 4-cylinder.
