Car - 2003 Holden rodeo RA 4x4 tfs77  3l diesel turbo   450,000 km

When I attempt to scan my car, the scanning tool got power but won't connect to the car, i cleaned and fixed the gaps in the female connectors, but to no avail, what should I do next, I also tried unplugging sensors which didn't work.

@itwt told you how to get the codes to flash on the check engine light the last time you asked.

Use a piece of wire to jump pin 6 with pin 5 on the DLC. That pulls the voltage down on pin 6 which tells the computer to flash the codes on the check engine light when you turn the key to ON.

Just pay attention if your dlc is mounted with the wide side on bottom (like in the diagram) or if it's upside down with the wide side on top. (in that case Pin 1 would be on the upper left, not the bottom right).

As far as using a scanner it looks like for your 2003 you'll need a Tech2 (or china knockoff) with this setup

thanks

the tech 2 tools seem to be expensive, but there are some cheep ones on AliExpress, do you think they will work for what i want?

Yeah, it will work. The guy you want to discuss the Tech 2 Chinese clones with is @chucktobias . If I remember right he has one that he uses on Saabs. You'd be using the GM card instead of the Saab card and maybe a different software choice in the software download but it's the same scanner
.
I believe there's a somewhat complicated process using an older laptop and perhaps (or perhaps not) cracked software to get past the security access for those clones
.
He'll be able to tell you exactly what you'd need to do to get it working

thanks

Seems like your vehicle model was only compatible with OBD2 in Australia from the 2007 model year onwards -

https://www.fueleconomysolutions.com.au/page/obd-ii-applications-guide/list-of-obd-ii-cars-in-australia/

To read the trouble codes in your vehicle, use this method -

Thanks, i'll have a look

Ye i tried the tool on 3 other cars and it worked.

It's still worth trying another scan tool.

Given that the car is nearly 20 years old it would not be surprising to find there is a wiring problem. Grounds can be particularly troublesome. There is both a chassis ground and signal ground on the OBD2 connector (pins #4 and #5, respectively), make sure both have good connections and that wiring to the signal pins are in good condition as well.

Try your diagnostic tool on a different vehicle. By the way, what is it?

Ye i tried the tool on 3 other cars and it worked. I'm not sure what the tool is but it was cheap, i think it is a ms309

The Rodeo is some strange partnership between Isuzu and GM, sold only in Austalasia. I'm not familiar at all with that market, and I don't know which OBD protocol or DLC pins it uses. Maybe @itwt or @dan know something.

Have you tried disconnecting the negative battery terminal?

Yes, I have a Chinese-made Tech2 clone. I actually wrote up a detailed response and then my web browser suddenly crashed and it was lost, so here's the Readers' Digest version:

I bought my Tech2 from chinacardiags.com  about 3 years ago. It has worked fine with the light use I give it but would probably not hold up in a shop environment. Not surprisingly, the price has gone up a bit. When ordering you specify what vehicle software you want, and they do offer it for Holden.

For U.S. cars you would not need a laptop, CANDI adapter, or TIS2000 software to work with a 2003 model. I don't know if this is the case for Australia-spec vehicles.

There is lots of information out there on the Tech2. I've found this site to have a lot of good info: https://tech2wiki.com/

thanks, I'll try it out.

I have a 2003 Holden rodeo, 450,000km manual.

Hey again, I have a check engine light which I want to read the codes for, but universal obd2 scanners are not compatible for my car, so how do read and reset the codes on my car? or were can I get a scanner that works? (the scanner port is obd2).

Did you read the second link in my post? There was a post in the rodeo forum which called for - “read the fault codes by bridging pin 6 to earth” If your OBD2 port is similar to the description in @chucktobias ‘s post above, you could try that in your vehicle.

thanks, will do
