I'm a disabled mechanic who does free mechanic work for low income families, I need to get a better obd2 scanner so I can help more people so I was wondering what is the best scan tool that will get the job done that is the cheapest? I've used dealer level scanners in the past but the one I have now just doesn't cut it.
It all depends on your budget and what you need. I think Bosch has a new one for less than 2 grand that Scotty used in couple of his videos and he was impressed by its capabilities.
I would second looking into the Bosch that Scotty has been using lately. It's a solid unit and does a lot for its price point (under $2k).
I would go with the Autel Maxisys MS906BT. Scotty has also been using that tool in his videos and Car Wizard had one a while back (his was a regular MS906). But aside from them using it, it is a really good scan tool for the money ($1200-$1600) and has bi-directional control. Whichever tool you get be sure to buy from one of the company’s authorized dealers if you care about support, service, software updates, and warranty, and to make sure you don’t get scammed.

If you decide to get it, I would recommend buying from Autel authorized dealer AESwave.com (I’ve bought scan tool from them and offer great service):
