Scotty.. My wife has a 2016 ford explorer platinum, awd, 3.5L twin turbo ecoboost, with 70,000 miles. It has a very noticeable surge in the rpm when it's in drive, just off idle. I can reproduce it regularly with my foot on the brake and just barely touching the gas (spooling up). No codes, no check engine or any other warning lights. It surges between 900 and 1200 rpm, until i let off the brakes and get into the throttle.
Is this normal turbo lag? Or am i feeling the onset of some major, high dollar repairs in the near future..?
Also, just as a side note worth mentioning.. she drives like a nascar champion..i drive like your grandpa in a grain truck. And... I'm an ASE trained tech, who transitioned into the heavy-duty industrial diesel earth moving machinery world. Definitely not a newbie when it comes to vehicles. I'm just looking for some solid guidance.
Well a lot of times those are notorious are getting vacuumed like. So get a smoke machine and smoke it out and see if you can find any leaks on the intake system. If not that those stupid EcoBoost systems are insanely complex when I check them with my fancy Autel scan tool there's so much data I can make your head spin
