Change Oil Viscosity on Ford Freestar?

Topic starter

Been using 20 W 50 oil for 10 years on my Ford freestar with a 120 milage because it was the only sort available at that time. Does it make sense to change to  the recomended 5 W 20?

Use the weight oil recommended by the manufacturer for the ambient temperature you are operating in.

Absolutely! 5w20 is the specified oil for your engine.

20w50 is really thick and probably caused your engine accelerated wear. Bad idea.

Only 20W50 was available? I've been using 5W20 (recommended) in my 02 Mustang until recently when I went to 5W30 (based on Ford engineers recommendation). Since you're out of warranty it might be just as good to use 5W30 if you're considering going to the recommended. By the way, is the mileage 120 miles or 120,000 miles?
