I plan on buying a 2017 Toyota Camry in the near future, any common problems in these models i should be aware of? Thank you
One of the best model years.
Yes, it is one of the best ones you can buy before they had the transmission troubles with the 2018-2019 Camrys.
The 2017 has proven to be one of the best model years in terms of customer satisfaction and reliability. As for the people complaining about the 2018/2019 models, they do tend to have transmission hesitation and gear hunting, but from what I’ve seen, it seems to be more of an annoyance than an actual reliability problem so far as many people in the Facebook groups who use these 2018+ Camrys for Uber and Lyft already have 180,000+ miles and are still going strong but that’s only about 50 out of the hundreds of thousands sold so we will not know for sure for another 5 years or so. Haven’t seen anyone have their transmissions or engines go out except for one guy who somehow already put 285k miles on his 2019 and never changed the transmission fluid so the transmission went out at 170-ish thousand miles. Plus he drove like a maniac flooring it at every green light and almost never took it on the highway so that was kind of his fault. I got the hesitation “issue” fixed with Toyota’s software update even though I didn’t really care about the hesitation or gear hunting in the first place but now it feels like a completely normal car.
It is the last model year of that generation of Toyota Camry and should be the most refined, before the new (current) generation came out (starting with model year 2018) and switched to the new (and unproven) 8-speed AT and also new (and unproven) Dynamic Force Engine.
I don’t think you can do better. Still make sure to have a good, honest independent mechanic thoroughly check it out esp. with a high level scan tool and give his OK before you buy.

Apparently V6 Camrys are more reliable than the Inline 4s. Without properly scheduled oil changes they start burning oil even if they are the well renowned 2AR-FE Engines.
