Oil change messed up engine

I have a GMC TERRAIN 2016 2.4 4cylinder. I took it to an oil change and brought my own oil and filter (5w-30). Oil was leaking and called the oil shop to look at it. Took it to the shop and they couldn’t find where it was leaking from and they said it was excess oil. They said call them back if anything happens.

After a 2 hour trip back and forth the engine started to knock. Checked the oil and it was at the til of the dip stick low. Still leaking oil. What should I do? Is the shop liable for the damage? Will it cost anything?

Had it all situated. They found the problem. Dumb guy forgot to clean the part where the filter screws in so there was a leak. Knock is gone. Changed the oil. All good!

They arer libel if they messed up but you brought the parts at the parts bad that's not their fault it's a filter is leaking

They did tell me if anything happens contact them. I bought the oil and filter from autozone and made sure it fits. They said there isn’t any leaks coming from the drain plug and filter. What would they usually do in incidents like this? Will they cover the damage or am I on my own on this? Will this cost a lot of money?

If it was leaking before you went to the shop, then they're probably not culpable.  Did they show you the dipstick with the new oil level at full?

I would wipe off all the oil and wait to see where exactly it's coming from. But if you're not comfortable with that, then you should take it to a good mechanic (not a quick lube chain).

It was not leaking before. They did show me the dipstick after the change.
