Hey Scotty, I have a 2013 Subaru Outback that burns a couple quarts of oil between oil changes.
Do you think if I use a quart of 5W-30 synthetic would help?
Unfortunately Subaru had an oil burning problem when that car was built due to defective piston rings. There's really not much you can do about it unless you want to install new rings, which of course isn't economically feasible. Just keep adding the manufacturer-recommended oil as needed.

Oil burning is an engine problem, not an oil problem. So, it wouldn't help. And you should always use the manufacturer recommended oil. It's more important to figure out why your engine burns oil and fix it.

No. Stick to whatever your owner's manual says. If you've never changed the PCV valve before, that's the easiest thing to change. If it still burns oil after the change, your engine is just worn out.
Scotty says you will ruin the engine putting heavier oil in it at 1:58
