I am doing head gaskets in my Aspen Hemi 5.7. As I was pulling off the head I saw that my plug wells are half filled with oil. The valve cover gasket is in good shape, but am replacing anyway. I pulled the lifters out and all are rolling fine with no cam damage. There is play side to side but not up and down on the rollers. Should they not have play? Before I put it back together, I would like to verify. Thanks
This motor utilizes spark plug tube seals in conjunction with the outer rim valve cover gasket. These tube seals leak over time filling the spark plug wells. These seals are included in a valve cover gasket set.
As for the clearance in the lifters there is only a small amount. I don't have the exact tolerance. I would start with replacing the valve cover gaskets.
