Oil Leak Question

Hi Scotty,

I have a 2007 Pontiac g6 3.5l v6 160000 miles. I have no visible signs of an oil leak and it’s dry under the car. However I checked my oil yesterday and it was on the last mark of the dipstick.Where could my oil be going? Is it a bad PCV valve? It has been extremely cold in Jersey the past few weeks.

If you've never changed the PCV valve, change it. If it still loses oil and there's no sign of leaks, the engine is burning oil. What was the interval between checking oil? You failed to mention that.

Thank you for your suggestion. I always change the oil before required service intervals. For this issue I found out you can’t just buy a PCV valve for this model. You have to buy the whole assembly including rubber hose and valve. I have just ordered this assembly for less than $50 online. I will replace this assembly and do a full oil change and see if this fixes the problem.

It's either leaking or burning oil, so if you see no oil leak anywhere, it's burning oil. A stuck PCV valve can cause excessive consumption so start there.

Thank you. I am going to try and replace the PCV assembly since for this car model you can’t just replace the valve and do a full oil change

Beware of cheap aftermarket car parts online. I've regretted every single one.
