[Solved] Slightly high oil level

I have a 2003 Honda Element with 200000 miles,,,,,when the car sits on level ground for about an hour and I check the oil level, it reads about 1/4-3/8” above the high mark.   Is it ok to just wait till the next oil change which is in about 2000 miles to make it right?

Well ended up doing it again. Ended up taking out about 240 cc in total, which is equivalent to about 8 ounces. The dipstick now reads very close to its high mark.

Not totally sure if it mattered that I even did this procedure,,,,but I feel better about it now.

again thank you to all 🙏

Thanks, not to easy for me because of physical issues.  But will probably figure something out.

There are pumps you can get that can pull oil out through the dipstick tube. There are both hand pump and electric versions available. (Note that we do not recommend using that method for performing oil changes since crud can be left in the oil pan.)

People perform oil changes through dipstick tubes all the time. You don't need to buy a pump you can get a syringe . Some plastic tubing  and remove some oil through the dipstick. Video follows:  https://youtu.be/uBENbaCnLiM?t=7

personally I would adjust it. It only takes a couple of mins to do it, but I can easily access my drain plug with a piece of cardboard

Oh wow thanks,,,,,,,I was going to ask if there were pumps for removing a small amount of oil (probably a half quart or less) from the top of the engine, as I know there is one for the transmission fluid?   Actually, I was thinking to use a syringe with a plastic tube attached,  but I was reluctant to do it…..Where would be the best place to get a hand pump?

@rpw613 Try Amazon, they have a pretty good selection.

Apparently with my Honda element…….A 1/4”O.D. plastic flexible tube cannot be fed down to the bottom of the engine to collect some oil.    Keeps hitting something.

Well, the dipstick has to be able to get down in there to dip into the oil. What are its dimensions?

I thought the same thing, the dipstick is flat maybe quarter inch wide, trying to figure it out myself.

Well, long story short, I tried to get the tube down again, moved it around and ultimately was able to do it, I’m guessing 20” deep in the engine……I pulled out about 100 cc of oil, letting the car sit on flat ground for an hour then will check the level…….again thank you to all.
