What would you rate the reliability of GM cars like the Chevy Celebrity, the Chevy Lumina, and the Pontiac Sunbird? Were these GM cars better made than most made today? Or were they junk?

From a guy that grew up around those particular cars they are piles of junk. Stay far, far, far, away from any of them. My comment is directed toward the particular models you named. There a few GM cars from back then that weren't too bad.

Keep away. Quality was definitely lacking, even back then.

To find decent GM vehicles you really have to go back at least to the 1970s (avoiding junk like the Vega), more likely the 1960s.
