my 2014 honda civic dx is totalled thanks to whoever was driving a white audi the wrong way in an highway exit (guy didnt even stop kept driving the wrong way lol)

so now im looking for a new vehicle something decently reliable but with some zippiness to it and good handling thats got space for people and camping stuff and a manual transmission and ideally 10 years or older so i can avoid paying extra taxes on it

basically dont wanna put lots of money an almost new car again for it to last me less than 2 years again because of people who cant drive

did my research and the mazda 3 looked to be the best one i can get for cheap (ik rust is a problem on those but found a lot that seemed completely rust free somehow)

looked at older civics but i dont wanna deal with engine block cracking and people sell those and toyotas for a lot more $ than the mazdas

gotta admit i kinda didnt look much at toyotas cuz i really disliked the 2014 yaris i got to borrow for a few days when my car got totalled the handling was awful car felt so wobbly it was lowkey scary to drive on the highway and it didnt have an aux?

not set on any specific trim/year of mazda 3 was mostly looking for whatever i could find at a good price tho if theres any i should avoid but i thats good to know, mostly just wanted to see what people think of that car

I would stay away from Mazda. The early models were not that good and I don't trust the newer ones including the deactivation 4-cylinder. The Toyotas are a safer bet.

do you know if any toyota handles well tho like id love recommendations for specific models the garage let me have a 2014 toyota yaris (the automatic transmission probably made it worse but ive driven auto cars that felt better so) a few days and it felt like driving a snail slow and wobbly to the point i felt a bit car sick...
car reviews i looked at seemed to be sayin similar things of other toyotas so that kinda turned me off considering em at all

Do not get a Yaris. My aunt had one and it wasn't the best for her. Go for a Camry.

ik i just said driving the yaris made me want to throw up it was a rental... dont want a camry i cant find 1 with a manual transmission and i hate driving automatic

If you want a manual, it's going to be tough unless it's a older mustang. Manual transmissions are disappearing.

aware theyre disappearing part of why im going with that again going to drive manual while i still can do not like automatic and ive found plenty more than just old mustangs with manual transmissions i mean ford stopped makin manuals but honda subaru toyota and mazda still got em

I wouldn't trust Mazda, Subaru or Honda. Honda's reliability is on the verge and Subaru and Mazda's quality is changing and is something I wouldn't touch.
