This $500 1988 Toyota Corolla shell is for sale in my area, the car is fully intact with the trans, wiring harness, ect, It's only missing a battery and it's engine.
How difficult would it be to find, and swap another 1988 Corolla motor into the car? I'd imagine the more annoying part would be sourcing the engine, could I potentially use a different engine? Or is this just something I shouldn't touch with a ten foot pole?
I would avoid it. Not worth the headache for a 1988 Corolla.
@blueman
Yeah, I agree. You say it's only missing an engine and battery, but there are definitely many more things that need to be replaced on it.
I'm not a mechanic, but I have some automotive knowledge.

All depends how much of a project you want. If its for fun and to learn, go for it! If you think its going to be a quick flip deal, then get something more current and complete. Again depends on your skills and ambition.
I recommend doing a quick search of the junk yards in your area for the make, model, and year (and compatible make, model, and year) to see if anything comes up. Also take a look at the JDM sites to see if the engine is available. You'll easily see if stuff is available or not.
It sure looks like it has been sitting for a while - you might need to replace a LOT of other parts, like brake parts, gas tank, electrics ... and on and on. You can find better Corollas in junkyards than this, cheaper than $500 and the cost of an engine (let alone all the other parts).

Is this thing buried half underground, or was dredged up from the bottom of a river? Either way, it's part of the Earth now.
would not touch it...not worth the headaches or the endless money pit that it will become.
