Should my brother change trans fluid?

Hi Scotty:

My brother has a 2016 Dodge Ram 3.0 litre Diesel Engine Truck, automatic, it has 350 000 km's on it. He bought it new. You are probably thinking no one gets that kinda mileage out of them, lol, but this is fact. He really looks after it, light loads, changes the oil with the recommended oil and Wix filters. But, he has never changed the transmission fluid. He is now talking about changing it. I tell him no.

Could I please get your opinion on this?

I watch your show when I can. I have an '06 Corolla, 240 K km's, manual. Been driving it for 7+ years. In the past year, I have deleted both the evac system and the catalytic converter. I don't think my gas mileage has ever been so good. The only real trouble I have had with the car is this past winter, when the ECU went. This is a harsh environment for cars, so I keep the underneath all oiled up. Have used Rust Block, Rust Check, and lately been using Fluid Film.

The details on whether to change transmission fluid can be found in the FAQ. (The short answer is that it is probably not a good idea at that mileage.)

Every transmission expert I’ve talked to said that it’s never too late to change the fluid, provided that you follow the procedure carefully. Doing it wrong can harm the transmission. ( which then turns into the stories you hear). YMMV. I don’t pretend to be an authority on the matter.

Personally I wouldn't touch it with that much mileage. I've seen guys change the fluid and then the vehicle won't even move afterwards. You're gambling
