Reliability or fun to drive? Corolla vs Mazda3

Hi Scotty,

Longtime fan from your old stomping grounds of Toronto. I am considering buying a used car and my budget will likely land me either a 2017 Corolla or Mazda3. I am leaning towards the Mazda3 as I am drawn to its sporty handling and nicer interior. This car would have to last me at least 5 years. Am I nuts for not wanting the sensible Corolla?

Get the Mazda 3 you like the car and it should be reliable for 5 years (and more).

2017 was also a very good year for the Mazda 3 with a Toyota partnership but without all the engine cylinder deactivation stuff.

I also heard Toyota/Honda insurance costs were outrageous up there.

If a mechanic says its in good shape, go for it!

Check carcomplaints.com for the 2017 Mazda 3. (Very few complaints, to date):
