Replace spark plugs too??

Hey Scotty, love your channel! I have a 2011 BMW 128i with a misfire on cylinder 5. It has 145000 highway miles and (because it's a bmw) it has gone through a few ignition coil replacements in the past.

I am planning on replacing all 6 ignition coils. Do I need to replace all 6 spark plugs too? If I can replace the ignition coils it would be easier. Especially as I do not have tools so I would have to buy them. 😬

Thanks so much and keep on being you!

I've never needed to change spark plugs. I've had them last well beyond 150k miles.

Well it all depends on when the spark plugs were changed last. If the time to change them is coming up, then just replace all of them while you replace the ignition coils. And as a rule of thumb, when one ignition coil goes out it's best to just replace all of them at once since they might fail soon after. I'm guessing you only replaced the ones that failed previously. Same with the spark plugs, change them all out at once. BMW technically specifies to replace both spark plugs and coils at the same interval, but that's definitely not necessary...

If it hasn't been done yes change them out. Replace ignition coils only when they are bad and use OEM parts.

Tools are one time investment. On the first job they will pay off. You probably already know that because you got a BMW and had experience at the BMW stealership lol
