Replace Truck with older truck.

Scotty,

I bought a 2003 Toyota Tundra V6 5spd manual 4x4 SRD brand new in 2003. I sold it at a loss to a friend because I was dumb and financed it as a 22yr old. Now I'm 41 and I want to buy it back from him. It's got about 175k miles on it and in pretty good condition. My wife thinks I'll have more problems with the Tundra than my current truck.

I'm currently in a 2010 F150 automatic 4x2 V8 4.6l.  It's running fine but I miss the stick and have needed 4x4 so many times when the Ford gets stuck.

Do you think I'll regret it with clutch replacement and older truck maintenance?

Thanks,

Dan

Don't get rid of your current F-150, especially if you actually use your truck for hard work. It's a perfectly fine V8 truck that is running fine. Why replace it?

If you really need your 4x4, you can buy your truck back, but I say if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

You didn't state mileage on your F-150 but even a Toyota will start getting rough around the edges at 18 years old.

i would buy it if it is a reasonable price, keep the ford too for pulling stuff

I personally would not regret it if I really wanted the old truck back, assuming a few things....that the Toyota is still in good shape mechanically, that money-wise I sell the Ford for a decent amount more than I buy the Toyota for (so you can put that cash into the truck if you need to), and that the Toyota doesn't have rust issues.

I wouldn't worry too much about clutch replacement, its one of those things you shouldn't have to do often at all...if you get it and it needs it now, do it and you wont have to worry about it for years if you drive it normally.

Thanks guys for the advice. The F150 currently has 148k miles on it. I use it as my daily driver I might haul a small yard trailer but I don't have a heavy boat or travel trailer that I use for hauling stuff.

As for the Tundra all it an overgrown Tacoma since it has a V6 and a manual trans....how many miles is too many in those?  From your answers I'm no longer worried about the clutch.

I appreciate it.
