Replacing an electronic control module in a 2007 Toyota Matrix: new or refurbished?

I may have to replace the ECM in my 2007 Toyota Matrix (96k miles).  New ones are very expensive, refurbished ones cheap. Does anyone know of reliable sources for refurbished ones?  Are there any major risks in getting a refurbished one from a reliable source?  Thanks

Do not ever buy a refurbished ecm. Whenever you are replacing something like that, always go for a brand new one. While it is more expensive, you are less likely to have problems whenever you buy a refurbished one.

The best bet for a used one is to get one from a junkyard car that has been in a wreck and reprogram it.
