I'm 17 and I have a 2006 Acura MDX and lately when I try to start the car it won't stsrt immediately, it takes a couple of seconds for the engine to get going. My dad thinks it's the starter and if so, do you think I should go ahead and replace my starter myself or should I get a mechanic to take a look at it. We got a new battery in November if thay helps. Thanks for your input and all that you moderators/Scotty do.
If it is cranking, the starter is ok. A couple of things to check:
1. Fuel filter - Is it clogged?
2. Spark Plugs - Are they good?
3. Run a bottle of fuel injector cleaner through it
4. Pressure check the fuel pump
That would be the way I would approach it.
Does it immediately start turning over but takes a while to catch? If so, then unless it is turning over slowly, it is probably a fuel issue. I would look at the fuel pump.
Thank you, ill keep an eye out next time I start it.
If it cranks then it's not the starter. Did you check the Frequently Asked Questions before posting?
