Picked up an '02 svt high miles great shape body wise.. engine has high miles but maintained mall it's life. did a few repairs, added new tires, full alignment, runs great & smooth, no light on dash.. took it by econo paint for an estimate, but they only wanted to sell the cheapest deluxe enamel package, not two stage.. car has never bn wrecked or ragged out, but does have sun damage on the roof/clear coat faded and in a few other places in..should i even consider that? pix of the car is my avatar ..just wondering if it worth $426 for the paint and slight body work.. don't want to spend a ton ..friends say "it looks ok as it is" .. "someone knows what they are doing can take care of the clear coat fade"
No, I made the mistake of doing this to a car once. The paint job was horrible. You usually get what you pay for.
I don't think it's worth it. It will be sunken money.
Very fascinating! Love all the documentation of the paint job!
That Corvair sure looks good from a distance. I had a 64 convertible once. My stepfather and I painted it, man was that a job. Lost it in divorce. Sure miss that car.
@oldandy, That inexpensive paint job no doubt doesn't look quite as good in person close up but it's still a nice result for minimal outlay. Certainly looks better in the photos than typical Earl Scheib type paint jobs.
I had a '64 Monza coupe with 3-on-the-floor ages ago. Learned to drive stick shift on that car. Wish I still had it, though if I were looking to buy a Corvair today to play around with I'd probably want to get a 2nd-gen (1965-1969) model - gorgeous styling and greatly improved rear suspension.
I would save the money myself.
use cheap paint but not the worst that will just wear right away because it is just a beater car anyway; my dad doesn't even maintain the body work on his 2019 honda crv, so....
