How do I make my car ride more comfortably

I want to upgrade my suspension on my 2008 scion xB to be more comfortable than stock. I have inquired about custom coil springs about 20 - 30 percent softer than stock strings while still maintaining stock height. But I am having the hard time trying to figure out if monotube struts versus twin tube struts are more comfortable. From videos to online articles I have mixed information, if you can clarify which one would give me the most comfortable ride between those two struts that would be awesome.

Why don’t you start with upgrading all your tires to good quality Michelins, first? Maybe even upsize to a slightly higher (taller) profile to increase ride comfort.

I wouldn’t recommend you start drastically messing with the suspension geometry with custom springs, or non standard shock absorbers for a mass produced vehicle.

Your vehicle wasn’t designed for that from the factory, and doing so may then introduce various secondary effects such as uneven wearing of your tire tread, or worse, added strain on your suspension and/or drivetrain components which will lead to premature wear & increased maintenance costs.

You didn’t mention your vehicle’s current mileage, but it’s possible that you may need your suspension inspected by a professional, to check for any abnormal wear which might be affecting the ride quality at present.

If your suspension is still in good shape, I still recommend you first switch to good quality, comfort oriented (Michelin) tires, before installing any non standard suspension parts.

I got the car with coil overs so it's lowered and so the geometry has already be changed, so that is why im changing it back stock height. Since stock springs are best I'll just get those, but then which struts types would recommend for comfort? Twin tube or Monotube struts? That all I need answered then.👍

You left that information out of your original question.. Scotty has a full video dedicated to your question -

It would probably be cheaper - and definitely a lot easier - to sell the Scion and buy an early 2000s Camry.

my thoughts exactly

Thanks guys but I prefer the simplicity of scion, and I really like the wagon style, everything is just a little easier in this car.

I have already looked but the question is still which struts type is better for comfort, Twin tube or Monotube?

I don't know from personal experience but it took me all of about 3 seconds to find this:

https://www.kyb.com/resources/technical-information/monotube-and-twin-tube/

"The monotube design offers additional performance and can have a more aggressive ride."

I have been researching all over and that is why I was getting mixed reviews, some said Twin tube was better other said Monotube out performed twin tube with dampening capability. So about 2 out of 3 now leaning towards twin tube.

For what it's worth the above is direct from the manufacturer rather than some random source.

I would look at premium quality struts and shocks by KYB or Bilstein.
