RPM on Tachometer some times stays at zero.

I have a 2013 Automatic Hyundai Accent 130000 miles.  Just the other day the Tach was reading zero as I was driving.  Everything about the car was normal but that. Went into store came back out and the tach was normal, It went to zero again but started working again.  Like I said the car runs fine. No lights on dash to indicate any issues.

Could this be a crankshaft sensor going bad? Can they be tested?

Thanks

The tach on my Accord was dropping randomly while driving, it ended up being a loose battery ground cable. I suspected a ground problem somewhere else but it luckily at the battery terminal. Maybe it's worth checking that before diving in?

When your Tach "drops out" maybe hook up your scanner (Live Data mode) and see if you can read the rpms on it.

It would be useful to know that result to troubleshoot the issue

More than likely it is a problem with the tachometer circuitry itself, maybe an intermittent short. If the computer was losing input from the sensor, you would have a CEL at the very least.

No CEL at all... It's a bad crankshaft sensor.

Thanks for the feedback. Very unusual that your engine was running fine with a bad sensor.

No problem... My mechanic did a few more Hyundai's that had the same issue/symptoms. One did throw a CEL but that person let it go a lot longer.
