Hello,
Im an active duty military, and some what of a novice car mechanic. I was tinkering with my 2012 Lexus ES350 and just for kicks I plugged my scanner tool (Autolink AL319). And got a $7E8 and $7E9 code. I check stored codes I have none. No other lights (check engine, etc). What it could be? Thanks for the hell guys and gals! Take care and be safe.

$7E8 and the $7E9 are fuel/air intake codes. Somehow, they are either logged falsely - happens, … or there is vibration of the engine - internal. Triggered by knock sensor, I believe. Let’s hope it’s an false alarm. Clear them and see if these return. If they do, … internal engine trouble, most likely. Fingers and toes crossed, …
Best,

If the CEL isn't on, I wouldn't worry about it.

$7E8 and $7E9 are bus node identifiers for ECUs, not trouble codes. (Just like the numbers on the front of your house).  They are normal. Carry on driving.

Trouble codes have a letter (P, C, B, U) and 3 numbers. For example P0300

OK, …. but for some reason, … at least on Lexus cars - driven hard - these either are random occurrences - from time to time, … but more often than not, are soon followed by P1326 - "Ignition Control Module Combustion Quality Input Signal", … so tells me an active Lexus mechanic.

Diagnosis, pretty well every time - I’m told , results in finding ignition control module harness open or shorted, … or circuit poor electrical connection somewhere. fwiw…

Ok. Thank you for the information. I believe that it the case for my situation. I have no other new, or stored codes popped on my OBD2 scanner. Thank you so much for the information. Please be safe, good bless and happy holidays.

Yes, I do not have any new or stored codes since I have cleared the codes and have driven the car for about 20 miles. Even tho these 2 codes still comes up. I do believe that the car should be ok. But I will keep a close monitor on it tho. Thanks for the information.
