Scotty, Merry Christmas. My buddy just bought a 2017 Volkswagen Golf TSI. It has 55k miles, is an automatic and runs on gasoline. Purchased for $10k from a dealership. Was it a good purchase for a college student?

I mean...Volkswagens become a big money pit when they get older. Hopefully it will last them a while. Have them keep up with the maintenence to maximize its lifespan.

The price is good they are not that all well made but keep up on tranny fluid because auto transmissions are weak thank god you got the tsi not the horrid 2.0T or TDI engines. It has 55k miles it might need new tranny fluid. Also I hope you had a mechanic check it out before purchase as a pre-purchase inspection.

TSI is their turbocharged line-up. Turbo Stratified Injection

@razmig
The TSI ones are better than the other engines. It still isn't great but better than the TDI and 2.0T, at least in the US.

@kerem
Oh, you're talking about the engines in the GTI/GLI/R? I belive they still use their TSI engine, but I'd have to do research on it.

@razmig
I am talking about the engines in VW in general
The Golf he is talking about came with a 1.8TSI and in the US the 1.8T and 1.8 TSI seem to have less issues than the other engines.

@kerem
Ah, I see what you're saying. Yeah it's actually interesting that their smaller 1.8T is having less issues compared to the 2.0T. That's VW for ya! Lol
