Hi, I have a family friend who is selling their car, here are the details, and let me know if it's a good buy. I'm 22 years old, looking for a simple get to point A to B type of car.
2007 Toyota Camry XLE V6 3.5 L
Automatic transmission
86,000 miles (about 140,000 km it's a Canadian Car)
It's got Bluetooth, heated seats, sunroof, keyless entry.
Single owner, was a older gentleman who passed away and his wife is looking to sell the car as no one drives it now. Was sitting for 2 months, they did have a new battery installed. Apart from general maintenance, is this a reliable vehicle?
Owner is willing to sell for $5500 CAD ($4000 USD).
Thanks.
if a mechanic inspection gives it a pass, grab it. Quickly.
You'll have to do some research.
I don't know which engines were available or which were problem ones.
It could be why it's priced so low.
Wasn't it the 4-cylinder models with the 2AZ-FE engine the ones with the oil burning problem? I thought the V6 was OK.
@chucktobias you could be right. My brain is too full to remember details about cars I don't own.
The V6 engine of that period didn't have oil burning issues, only the 2AZ-FE, years 2007-2011
then yeah, get it checked out. A low mileage Toyota for that price is probably hard to come by
Thanks everyone for their comments. I'll have it checked by my mechanic. From my own little research I did hear that the 4 cylinder was the oil burner and that the V6 was okay.
The reason for the very low price is I'm getting a big discount since it's a family friend who is an elderly women not looking to make money.
the steering wheel vibrated a lot and wasn't aligned.
alignment is not a big deal. $100. Maybe the owner will even split the cost with you. It wouldn't be a dealbreaker for me.
By all means keep looking, but I wouldn't write this one off yet.
Apart from general maintenance, is this a reliable vehicle?
Yes, that's a reliable car. As @imperator stated you definitely need to have a mechanic inspect it thoroughly before buying.
UPDATE°
I went to check out the car and do a test drive, and I didn't feel confident about the car. It looks fine, but when driving it wasn't smooth and the steering wheel vibrated a lot and wasn't aligned.
I didn't take it to my mechanic because I didn't want to waste his time since I wasn't interested in the car anymore. At the end of the day it's a 16 year old car and I rather spend a little more and get something a little more recent.
Thanks everyone for the replies and help, I look forward to posting more questions and getting to know you fellow car enthusiasts.
