My wife and I decided that a second vehicle is something we need now that we both work she says she really wants a SUV. I found a 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander SE just shy of 60,000 miles for $16,000. I inspected per Scotty Kilmer's what to look for when buying used cars video and everything seemed right as rain even drove amazing, so should I buy it?

Clarification: The vehicle has 60,000 miles. How many years and miles (beyond this) do you need it to last you?

The car isn’t bad, if you don’t plan on keeping it for over 10 years or 120k-140k miles.

The weak spot is in the CVT transmission but if you service it very frequently (new oem CVT fluid every 20k-30k miles) it should be alright.

I’m not sure on the price 16k is kinda high for a Mitsubishi, that’s only 4k less then a brand new Mazda CX-3 (the CX-30 is a different car and it’s slightly more expensive then the CX-3) that is a much better car especially when it comes down to reliability.

If you want to keep the car for a long time, no. Instead, consider Toyota or Honda.

What’s the price difference with a similar model year & mileage RAV4/CR-V?

No, don't bother. Those were not good cars. Don't waste your money.

Those cars aren't great but they can last a fair amount (150-175K) as long as you take care of them. You're always going to overpay when buying a crossover right now. And with the market the way it is now, it might be wise to scoop up a car before the prices keep going up.

They are reasonably nice cars (especially to the wallet) and can be O.K. as long as you aren't putting huge miles on them. With car prices the way they are, I might snatch that up if I was in need.

You'll be looking for for probably 5-8K more for a better built Japanese vehicle.

Price or long term reliability - the choice is yours.
