So I was leaving my street to go into town and noticed that there was a sedan at a truck dealership near my street. When i checked it about on the dealer website I saw that it was a 2014 VW Jetta TDI manual trans with 148,000 miles. It’s advertised at $9,800 and i was thinking of going and checking it out. I personally have never driven or owned a diesel vehicle, and was wondering on y’all’s thoughts? What are the little quirks and whatnot?

VW diesel manuals are generally solid, but I wouldn't advise buying one in the US nor for that much money.

If you live in North America and plan to keep the vehicle for a while and hoping to keep your repair costs low (I presume you care about that), then stay away from VW products especially if out of warranty. Now, if you lived in Germany it would be a different story since the vehicle would have been built there (versus Mexico for North American market), many more mechanics can work on them, and parts are more readily available.
No, I wouldn't buy any modern Volkswagens in general. You're gonna spend a lot of money at that mileage. I wouldn't advise buying used cars from dealerships.
