Hi Scotty!
As I metioned before, I'm on the hunt for a new USED car. (My 2002 Chevy Prizm, 4in, 1.8lt, standard trans, good gas mileage is smoking at 300k and I can't pass smog here in CA).
So, was looking at the Ford Fiesta... you said no way... get a Honda Fit.
FINALLY, I found one... here are the SPECS - $19,995
SO HERE's THE QUESTION: It was made in Mexico, not Japan. Should I still buy it?
Thanks!!! {black}:hi:
Not at that price!!

I totally get it - too pricy... but more important to me right now - before I begin negotiating a price - does it make a difference that it was manufactured in Mexico.

No, the plant and their processes are still run by Honda and the top-down culture/management is better than the Big Three’s as well as other automakers. See discussion below: also applies to Honda

.
Obviously, made in Japan > made in US/Canada > made in Mexico but sometimes you don’t have a choice where it’s made.
Yes, noticed... but I havn't made them an offer yet. And I won't buy unless I have an idepenent mechanic check out the frame and engine.

Within the Car Gurus listing for the 2015 Fit which you provided if you scroll down and click on the Dealer website, they have the Carfax listing for this car which indicates that this car has not been involved in one accident, but two. The first occurred on 1/08/2018 involving damage to the rear and the second occurred on 7/29/2019 involving damage to the left front and damage to left side area. About two weeks later on 8/16/2019 a four wheel alignment was performed. Something for your mechanic to check out.
That price is insulting.
If you are willing to travel a bit, you could get a much better deal away from the west coast.
Thank you for your suggestion.
You did notice the information provided by Car Gurus stating that this vehicle has a history of one accident and two previous owners, and is listed at $3,693 above market price…didn’t you?

Thank you everyone for helping me make a decision. Here's the the situation:
I'm 66, my ex-husband who lived with me for 23 years (past his experation date), and was my best friend, took care of the car (not very well, but he tried) died in April. I didn't realise how sick he was until he passed and found the car hadn't been taken care of properly for some time, the garbage disposal wasn't working, etc. Not his fault, I am so grateful for the time we had together; and I work a lot and wasn't paying close attention.
Anyhow, I have to get a new car, I have no choice since there is a signifigant amount of smoke coming out of the tailpipe.
And yes, I am being too picky, I guess. I only want to drive a standard transmission and I want great gas mileage since I commute to another city 5 nights a week for work. About 60 miles round trip per night. And to the airport, 120 round trip, twice a month for volunteer work out of state.
I would be happy to fly anywhere to pick up the car, since I don't have much money. However, I don't know any mechanics outside of Portland, OR or Sonoma County, CA who will help me.
Any ideas on how to find that out-of-state cheaper car with my specs and hire an HONEST local mechanic to check it out?
Is there a website of "mechanics for hire to check out your purchase" website I don't know about?
Thanks everyone for your thoughtful suggestions!
Thank you Scotty! I will only buy that car if I can get it for $14K-$15K.
You are my car hero!
