Should I buy??Used Lexus w/accident

Hi Scotty,

I test drove and loved this used 2018 Lexus Rx350 Luxury with 65k KM at the local Lexus dealership. I was given the carfax report and it shows a front end collison/repair and hail damage/repair.(2018-2019). It looks like it was regularly serviced and appears to be in excellent shape. I was always told to NEVER buy a vehicle that was previously in an accident(especially front end ). Should I run away?? What should I do to make sure I am not gonna buy a lemon???

Thank you and God Bless,

Jenny

If you want to be SURE, you are best off not buying an accident-damaged vehicle. So many things may have been damaged, or improperly repaired that even Scotty would have a hard time spotting them. Sheet metal can be bent, destroying it's corrosion-resistant coating, electrical wiring can be damaged, suspension and steering components can be subtly bent - and these are VERY hard to spot, or may only show up as damaged after a considerable number of miles.

Now, if you've got a local Scotty level mechanic to check things out, and you are getting a suitable price reduction (which the mechanic can advise you on), then you might want to roll the dice.

I would not take the chance, not from a dealer, not in an accident and certainly not from anything Carfax says.  What is the outrageous price they are asking?  I notice you left that part out.

Oops I forgot to say it's listed at $44k which is a good price right now for this make and model in Canada at least(everything is over priced)

i just missed on buying a LS 400, but it was $2800 lol

Agree with Glen_Stet. One other step you might try, see if there is any paperwork in the glovebox with the previous owner's info. Twice I have bought used cars from dealers and found such paperwork, which enabled me to contact the previous owners and ask them questions about the car. Good luck.

Personally I would run away, there are too many used vehicles out there to pick from that have not been wrecked.

That price is outrageous.  Run away.

The car market is insane right now, Doc. Everything is overpriced.

I know, I feel the pain. It really sucks.

Haha what can you do, the entire world is upside down...
