I have a 2012 Lexus IS250 with 122k miles. The car runs perfectly fine and there’s no squealing from the belt or anything, I just didn’t know if I should replace it just from its age. Would it be a good idea or a waste of money?
how many miles on the belt? What does it look like?
You can get belt testers for cheap, or even free.
Well if you're the type of person who can fix minor problems on the side of the road in the dark, and you carry your automotive tools with you, then you buy a spare belt and throw it in the trunk.
If it's the type of thing you visit a mechanic for, then do it when it's convenient, rather than getting stuck waiting for a tow truck driver in the snow (and your heat won't work without a belt).
I’ve only owned this car for 4k miles but I have all the service records at Lexus since new and it appears that it’s never been changed. Still looks like it’s in good condition though, no cracks or anything unusual.
