I drove 600km to see a 2000 1.8(145hp) 220.000 real km Toyota Celica for 2350 euros. The seller told me its in great condition and it only needed an oil change. Upon an 8 hours roadtrip i scanned the car ant it had p0420 catalytic converter efficiency below threshold and system too lean 12.5% long term fuel trim. I didnt see any vacuum leaks, they told me they barely drive the car and that it sat with a quarter of gas tank for over two months wich made me think dirty fuel injectors.. The car had very bad acceleration, it also has many other small defects including broken parking brake. The Celica was driven by a 16 year old girl who told us to let her drive to show me how its done. She did 140km/h in a rural area and i thought i was gonna die for sure. Her family was very dumb and rude to me, telling me i wasted their time. Then i had to drive back another 8 hours... What do you think, should i've bought this car despite of the defects and bad manners from her family?

Fun fact: 20 minutes after leaving their home they called me accusing me of throwing their daughters purse over the neigbours fence, thing wich i wish i have done but didnt.

So what about this car that “had very bad acceleration and many other defects” was in “great condition”?

How dirty was the engine oil that “needed changing”?

If the sellers were as “dumb” as you described, I would not trust them to be able to properly maintain a vehicle. Consider yourself fortunate that for whatever reason you passed on this 24-year-old high mileage car owned by a weird family.

I think you dodged a bullet. At least you got a hilarious story to tell.

220.000 real km

Yeah seems so, 9k km a year is under (but not too much bellow) the average for the EU (~11k km a year)

That's usually the case with petrol cars that got old and weren't in use for a while...

2350 euros

Seams expensive for some 1.8L 2000 Toyota.

For a bit more you can get a very nice ~2005 Toyota Avensis Combi manual if you want an old Toyota for some reason...

seller told me its in great condition (...) it had p0420 catalytic converter efficiency below threshold (...) system too lean (...) long term fuel trim (...) The car had very bad acceleration (...) broken parking brake

You made a VERY good decision by not buying that can of worms!

16 year old girl who told us to let her drive (...) She did 140km/h in a rural area and i thought i was gonna die (...) family was very dumb and rude to me, telling me i wasted their time (...) they called me accusing me of throwing their daughters purse over the neigbours fence, thing wich i wish i have done

omg... what part of the EU was that???

This has to be one of the most ridiculous stories I've herd in a while!

Romania :))
