Use Loctite on beauty cover bolt?

Hello, I drive a 06 Toyota Corolla LE, manual, with about 98,000 miles on it now. Since I have owned it, I have only had one beauty cover bolt to secure the cover to the metal valve cover. Ace hardware sold me a bolt, but suggested lock tight (which they sold me as well). I think their thinking was to have the main part of the bolt permanently screwed into the metal valve over, with a simple removable cap nut and washer. But I have yet to put it on because I have been worried about the lock tight. Is it even needed?

Thanks for your help.

Blue Loctite would be OK, it will resist coming loose from vibration but the fastener can still be removed without drastic measures. (Red Loctite is stronger and requires heat to loosen.)

I would just throw the cover away myself.

Just use a lock washer.

I’m curious, have you ever in all you experience seen a nut come loose with a lock washer?

Or even no washer?

has it ever come loose?

None of them have come loose in the past, and I have been driving with it in, no lock tight and it is doing A-OK! Thank you all for your advice.

IMHO, the guys at hardware stores will try to upsell you stuff. Sometimes it is legit, other times it truly just to sell more product, and sometimes may mine a little of both.

It’s not a critical component, so I wouldn’t worry too much about using locktite.
