Hey Scotty,
A lot of car models are going out of production due to poor quality, move to EV, etc. But the Mazda6 (latest version) is a great car with amazing power and classy design. Knowing that Mazda discontinued the Mazda6, do you think they will go up in value?
I bought a used 2018 model in white with just 6,500 miles on it for $22k. Right now it’s at about 16,000 miles it’s so still fairly new.
I am just wondering if I should stop driving it and let it go up in value or just appreciate the car for what it is and drive it normally.
Thanks Scotty! You’re the best and most helpful mechanic in the world!
It will not go up in value and will never be collectible in this lifetime. If you stop driving the car it will just deteriorate. Use it and maintain it properly and it should last a long time.
I would drive it judiciously, become OCD about the maintenance and sell when you want to at a nice profit.
For a car that gets discontinued and goes up in value the Mazda6 does not fit in that category since it's just a normal regular sedan. The FJ Cruiser went up in price when it got discontinued but that was a special car with specific audience, but this won't happen with a Mazda6. So if the car is fine keep it and use it; and if you're having issues with it or just don't like it anymore then now is a good time for selling it and getting something else since used car prices are high.
It's not an old Ferrari or Lamborghini, etc; it's a mass-produced car. Forget about it going up in value and drive it and enjoy it.
