My wife has a 2014 Jeep Compass Latitude with about 80,000 miles automatic transmission. Her father said we could have his Toyota Corolla early 2000s with about 140000 miles automatic transmission for free. My thought is to sell the Jeep because I’ve read the transmissions go out frequently at 100000 miles. The Toyota has been maintained well. Would proactively selling the Jeep in a hot market be a good idea?
Selling something like a Compass for $$,$$$ in todays market is a great idea!
After the market cools down, and gas guzzlers become much less desirable - it'll probably lose most of its value.
Just make sure the Corolla doesn't have any issues and is in great shape.
I'm actually doing the same thing, selling my old cars for much more than they have ever, and will ever, go for while the market is hot and keeping my old 2000s Corolla (along with a new car I have)
That sounds like an excellent ideai if the Corolla is in good condition. (Hard to argue with a free car, but even so you wouldn't want something that needs thousands of $$$$ in repairs.) The Compass is certainly not known for reliability or longevity.
Definitely get rid of the Jeep: it is past its useful life.
