[Solved] Should I Sell or Keep my 93 Ford Explorer

Hey Scotty!

So I bought this 93 ford explorer sport automatic tran, 4.0L V6 engine.

I paid $600 for it and it ran the day I bought it but it soon gave me trouble on the way back home. Poor acceleration, sputtering and jerking. It didn't want to take me home.

After pulling over 3 times I finally made it home. The car doesn't want to give power like a normal car should.

So, after spending the 600 on it I put in another 700 worth of car parts.

I even replaced major parts like:

Fuel filter, fuel injectors

Spark plugs, spark plug wiring and ignition coils

The rest are mainly suspension and cosmetics.

After dealing with the car trying to make it run like normal it still gives me the same problem.

Now I seen your video on compression testing and I purchased a compression tester and was about to go check it out till work got in the way and now the battery is dead.

Im bummed out cause I have high hopes in restoring my car and I have one group of people telling me to give up and sell the piece of junk while my other half said im probably almost there finding the problem and I can finally take it anywhere but in my land.

What should I do scotty?

Sell it? Or keep it?

Do the compression test, if the engine doesn't seem to be the culprit, shift to considering why the battery died quickly, this might be a problem with the alternator. There was a similar problem where one had his car turn off when coming at a stop and maybe similar to what your experiencing.

Also maybe try and clean the throttle body, there might be significant build up of carbon which can probably prevent the valve from opening properly. Once again, the car is old and if you can't find the problem just get rid of it.
