I have a 2014 ford explorer base model with I think,  3.5 duratec engine. Automatic transmission  (infamous ptu). I have 86000 miles on it but I have heard about water pump issue. I already had ptu replaced. What is likely hood of water pump going out and should I change it at 100,000? Or should I go buy a nice quality Chrysler product? Lol. Ford was last beacon of quality for U.S.. I feel like the Indian from the old environment commercials. Thanks for all your help. {black}:sweaty:

Which Chrysler product were you looking at?

I think he was joking.

Well Chrysler quality is all crap especially since fiata announced Atlantis to go over the Fords aren't that bad and the pumps don't just randomly break if they start to rattle or make noise you can replace them

Adding to what Scotty says, even if you catch the water pump before it potentially takes out the engine, just to replace the water pump is a partial engine out job and can costs thousands of dollars.  You can look on YouTube for yourself but it is very involved - very dumb design by Ford (then again might have been part of their ‘planned obsolescence’.)
