2014 Ford Fusion as son's first car?

Hey Scotty,

It's time for my son to get his first car.

I have a 2014 Ford Fusion with 155,000 miles that I was thinking of giving him.

The car has never had any actual engine problems.  I have had to replace the entire AC system ($1300), I've had to replace the rotors twice and they feel like they need new ones.  I've also had to replace the shocks and struts twice, as well. (Also due for replacement)

In between all that, it goes through tires quite a bit faster than expected too.

There is also a strong jerk in the transmission when you first go into reverse for the first time of the day, about half the days.  (I have never had transmission flushed or even fluid replaced I don't think, so it's probably too late to actually try any big fluid changes)

All that to say, what should I do with it?  I could sell it to Carmax for $4600 right now.  Should I sell it and give that to my son for him to put into a car?  He would have that plus a couple grand of his own, so, about $6600 for a car or should he just take the Fusion and put the 2k aside for any future repairs?

If he kept the Fusion, I would make sure the rotors, shocks and struts are new.

I'm in Nashville and would be happy to bring it by if that helps.

Sounds like you've been pretty lucky so far but those cars are not known for their reliability or longevity.

Bring it to Scotty! There is a super secret way, in the FAQ, of how to contact him directly to bring your car in.
