What are your thoughts on the reliability on Volvo's 2.0 litre turbo/surgercharged engines. They have been around since the redesign of the xc90 so wondering what your opinion is.
Thank you
On the mythical “TFL scale of buy it, lease it, rent it, or forget it”: it’s at best a “lease it”, and unless your local dealer has truly exceptional sales and service departments, might very well be a “forget it”.
I live on the coast where there are a lot of import vehicles driven (and keeping up with the Jones’ is a thing) and I have maybe seen one or two XC90 driving around over the last few years. Hardly anyone is buying these and the automotive journalists rarely mention it in comparison tests.
.
I would pass on it. Service and getting parts for it (if you keep long term) could be an issue.
.
There was an independent automotive journalist YouTuber named Savagegeese who owned a recent Volvo product and had nothing but issues even while under warranty. He subsequently got rid of it.
.
I also have a co-worker who is a Volvo fanboy (buys nothing but much older Volvos when they were built well) and even he said to stay away from the modern Volvos.

These tend to be decent for the first 100,000 miles - but they’re plagued with oil burning and injector issues.
It’s the kind of crap that you’d find in a Geely Tugella - an economy car marketed by Volvo’s parent company.
Still better than something like a TFSI, but it’s just very subpar - I would not recommend, just get a Toyota/Lexus.
Well, they're okay Angels but I wouldn't buy a new Volvo because Volvo says they're only going to be making electric cars in the future. Who knows if they're leaving support there late model gasoline vehicles in the future
