I have a 1984 Pontiac Bonneville with a 305 v8. my gas gauge is stuck on the 1/4 mark. I disconnected the positive and the gauge went to full. so i figured it was a stuck float. I replaced the float and gas tank. with the tank empty the gauge read empty. i filled the tank and the gauge went up to 1/4 and stopped again. Not sure what the issue is now. Any thoughts?

If the sending unit was replaced and the wiring connected properly, the gauge itself is probably malfunctioning.

the sending unit was replaced. The gauge is working. i can disconnect and connect and make it go from 1/4 to full.
