2015 Subaru Legacy Gas Gauge

Hi, I got a 2015 Legacy 4 cylinder. When I fill it up, it only shows 3/4 tank. As I drive down the road, it slowly goes to F. Not a big deal but I was wondering what it could be so I can address it now. My wife drives the car and she won't notice a stuck gauge until it stops running.

The float in the tank is probably sticking and needs to be replaced.

@chucktobias thanks for the reply. Can I assume that a stuck float won't show up in a scan?

Right, it's really just a simple rheostat connected to a float. I don't think there are any other sensors that act as a check on it, so there's nothing to scan. What's probably happening is the float is sticking initially and as the car bounces around while driving it frees up.

@ChuckTobias is correct. The float needs to be replaced. Not an uncommon problem and as it is a simple piece, it will not show up in any diagnostic scan.
