I have a 2020 Subaru Impreza and I noticed today the antifreeze level is at the low line. I want to add a little more to keep the level below the high line. But buying the Subaru super coolant it’s expensive and hard to come by since only the dealer sales it. This is the only one the manual recommend.
The question is can I add the Asian vehicle blue coolant from Walmart, or advance auto part? I noticed they have Subaru on the cover.
I dunno..your car is under warranty and any issues that come up and not using non-authorized approved factory coolant is iffy in my book. If something is going wrong...and losing coolant is a hint...you come in and they detect your using Wally Coolant...they could deny your warranty claims....I would buy the factory coolant to keep it safe. I don't put it past any dealers to try his stunt. It's on you however but I would go with the approved factory coolant and KEEP every receipt to insure your NOT denied in any way.
Another way is ask the dealer if coolant non-factory brand is approved and get that in writing. I would like to hear their reply.
Find out what type of coolant your car needs. I assume it is HOAT. Buy any brand with this type.
"the antifreeze level is at the low line"
Is that before you start the engine? Another words, when engine is stone cold? If that’s the case, … it’s normal! Cold engine: … level bit higher than LO mark. Hot engine: … level bit lower than HI mark. After all, what you looking at is an expansion tank, I presume?
Anyway, … new car, level bit low when cold, … drive up to your dealer and command they add a bit of a coolant, … gratis! If it’s really low, simply make a warranty claim, …
