Subaru Impreza engine knock?

Hello! I have a 2007 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport with around 151800 miles, purchased for $2,000. I just registered the thing less than a month ago and I hear a small knocking sound from the engine and a drone sound when I accelerate. Two mechanics tell me it’s fine, two say it could be the cylinder head. I don’t know much about cars, let alone Subaru boxer engines. Should I replace the engine or get a new car? Any other advice?

Can you make a YouTube video of the noise & post the link here?

At that mileage having some minor valve train noise is normal. Beware of mechanics doomsday predictions taking advantage of your concern. If you had two mechanics tell you it’s fine I wouldn’t worry about it much as long as it’s driving ok. You can send an oil sample to blackstone labs for analysis for about 30 bucks. If they don’t detect metal in the oil out of normal range just keep up on maintenance and drive it until it dies.

I’ll probably try that oil thing. I have t checked it since I’ve gotten the car. I probably should because I’ve heard of Subaru’s guzzling oil like no other. 😂
