Subaru Loyale 1991 runs only when gas pedal is down

So to start this off, this is my friends 1991 Subaru Loyale 4 door 5 speed manual transmission that he got a while ago, when he purchased the car the previous owner said that the exhaust bearing will need to be replaced, and that is the audible sound that we can hear when driving, it sorta sounds like someone put a cheap custom muffler on it, but a few weeks ago he was driving down the the road and the vehicle stalled, he tried to start it up, but it wouldnt, he pulled over and tried again, wouldn’t start, it cranks though. So I come over and see if I can see anything obviously wrong, and I tinker with it, because when we tried to start it we could smell fuel, so we know their was fuel getting in there, but wasn’t burned, eventually we towed it to a mechanic and had them check it out. They put in a new distributor rotor, but they wanted $1,200 to replace the mass airflow sensor and the distributor. The car will at least start then stall out at this point, so today I got both of those from the local pick-and-pull, and I took off the distributor cap, and noticed one of the 4 pins in there is actually bent, so I put on the new distributor cap, and start it up, it now stays on as long as my foot is on the gas, I haven’t replaced the actual mass airflow sensor yet, but I have tried with and without it, so I don’t imagine it would have any impact, but I plan on putting on the other one later, but I am wondering what could be the issue, could it be the exhaust bearing, could the rest of the distributor be bad or something, or could the exhaust bearing be causing the issue, and if that’s not it, if the car has a carburetor, could it just need some adjustment?

What is an "Exhaust Bearing?"  Anybody???

I just looked it up. It actually does exist. It is something that makes the exhaust flow better.

Seriously? Let me see a picture and a part number please.

That “exhaust bearing” sounds like something is broke inside the muffler or the whole exhaust pipe lol I typed it in and got the pipe with a muffler whoops.

edit. It’s part of the muffler it’s a muffler bearing

If you can't prove it, you can't say it. Show us a picture and part number for a "muffler bearing" please.

Well you said one of the pencils bent if it got hit that would mean the distributor itself is worn out and swapping around so I would assume a new distributor would fix that problem because if that pin got bent by being hit then the distributor shot cuz it's wobbling around inside
