[Solved] Suspension in 1998 Honda CR-V rattling and banging

The suspension on the left side of my 1998 Honda CR-V makes a rattling noise when going over uneven bumps in the road like really loudly and the left side makes a really loud bang sound when hitting a bump on the road like when I hit a small pot hole. The suspension in the rest of the car is good. What can be the cause of the rattling and the bangs?

Mileage?

It sounds like the strut mounts. When I had my 2000 I had to replace them twice. I also had to replace them 6 times in different crvs mostly 1998 to 2001. They seem to be a weak point in These cars.. it's possible it can be ball joints, control arms, sway bar links. A very detailed inspection of all  components is the only way to find the cause.

Relatively fragile suspension parts is the Achilles heel of the CR-V..

Hahaha that is true.

Any loose part(s) from worn sway bar links to bad control arm bushings to a loose ball joint, etc. could potentially be the cause. Physical examination is required to find the worn parts. A recent video by Scotty demonstrates checking out the suspension:

If you're still on the original suspension parts, it’s probably time for some new parts..

To diagnose them, you’d need to jack up the vehicle and start prying (load testing) all the different parts with a crowbar.

When was the last time the rubber strut mounts were replaced?
